VISION AND LONGEVITY · PATIENTS

Caring for vision is part of ageing well

More than counting years

What would you like to keep doing comfortably in the years ahead? Reading a letter, writing or practising a craft. Visual longevity puts those activities at the centre of the conversation.

What we know and what remains uncertain

A review of studies in adults aged 40 or older, followed for at least one year, found an association between vision impairment and mortality. It does not show that correcting vision extends life. It did not study TVT®.

Association does not establish cause: general health and other factors can contribute. These findings should not be applied to every difficulty reading up close.

Start with your activities

Write down the task, distance and lighting that you find difficult. Bring your questions to an eye assessment to discuss options suited to your eyes.
