Outcomes and treatment options
More comfortable near vision means reading messages, checking a menu and enjoying a book with fewer interruptions. TVT aims to reduce reliance on reading glasses through personalized treatment without surgery.
TVT: results followed over months
TVT combines customized contact lenses and eye drops in a protocol with professional assessment and follow-up. The 2017 clinical report described an average improvement in binocular uncorrected near vision maintained at six months among 46 patients with final-visit data, from 50 at baseline.
An analysis of binocular uncorrected near vision in the corrected dataset found that all 50 patients had some improvement at one or more follow-up visits; 49 of 50 gained more than one line at their best visit. This describes the best recorded response during follow-up, not a constant gain at every visit. At the final recorded visit (visit 7), 40 of 46 patients gained at least one line and 33 of 46 gained more than one line from baseline. One line equals 0.1 logMAR; more than one includes fractional gains and does not necessarily mean two full lines. Improved visual acuity and independence from reading glasses are different outcomes.
Our commitment to you
Yolia offers a guarantee of at least two lines of improvement in binocular uncorrected near vision: if that result is not achieved, Yolia refunds the full treatment cost. Before starting, ask the team for the guarantee terms, the vision test used and the assessment timing.
Presbyopia drops: daily use and effects measured in hours
Drops such as VUITY (pilocarpine) and VIZZ (aceclidine) reduce pupil size to temporarily improve near vision. They are used daily as prescribed. The studies in the VIZZ label describe an effect studied through ten hours.
Safety: understanding each option's effects
The drops were evaluated separately for safety. The 2007 human study, involving 30 participants and a placebo group using isotonic solution and lubricant, concluded that the drops were safe to instill on the ocular surface under the conditions studied. A preclinical study also reported no signs of irritation or corneal changes during its observation period.
Contact lens use requires specific care and professional follow-up. Following hygiene and wear instructions helps reduce its risks. A clinical document on combined treatment described transient mild irritation and redness; that record alone does not establish whether the drops, lenses or protocol adherence caused those findings.
Presbyopia drops also have side effects. VIZZ trials reported eye irritation (20%), dim vision (16%) and headache (13%); most were mild and transient. The VUITY label lists headache and conjunctival redness among the most common adverse reactions (more than 5%).
Both labels warn about blurred or dim vision and rare retinal tears or detachments associated with miotic use. Eye examination and professional guidance are essential when selecting an appropriate option.
The named drops have controlled clinical trials described in their official labels. The TVT evidence summarized here comes from internal clinical documentation and the public 2022 report linked in the library. These figures come from different studies with different outcomes and follow-up periods. They do not constitute a direct comparison of efficacy or safety between TVT and the drops.
